Roboshuttles

Roboshuttles

Roboshuttles are a new type of vehicle that we first saw emerging at the start of the last decade. Since then, many companies have shown interest in roboshuttles. They have generated excitement through their small size and bidirectional travel opening new use cases, such as operating in pedestrianised areas. Companies like Navya and EasyMile have been selling roboshuttles to other companies looking to investigate their use in small trials. Some have been able to expand to large trials involving tens to hundreds of units. However, we are starting to see some roboshuttle companies close their doors and others pivot to other vehicle types. While other autonomous technologies are now progressing into commercial trials and even early deployments, roboshuttles appear to be stagnating. This premium article explores and compares more than 25 different companies that have been involved in roboshuttles. IDTechEx has collected data on each of these companies and uses it to provide in-depth analysis and understanding of the roboshuttle industry in this premium article. From investigating the successes and failings within the industry, IDTechEx has formed an opinion about the outlook of roboshuttles and whether they are likely to be a commercial success in the future.

Tiny Fish-Shaped Robot Collects Microplastics

Tiny Fish-Shaped Robot Collects Microplastics

Microplastics are found nearly everywhere on Earth and can be harmful to animals if they're ingested. But it's hard to remove such tiny particles from the environment, especially once they settle into nooks and crannies at the bottom of waterways. Now, researchers have created a light-activated fish robot that "swims" around quickly, picking up and removing microplastics from the environment.

Swarm of Tiny Swimming Robots Could Look for Life on Distant Worlds

Swarm of Tiny Swimming Robots Could Look for Life on Distant Worlds

Someday, a swarm of cellphone-size robots could whisk through the water beneath the miles-thick icy shell of Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Enceladus, looking for signs of alien life. Packed inside a narrow ice-melting probe that would tunnel through the frozen crust, the tiny robots would be released underwater, swimming far from their mothercraft to take the measure of a new world.

The Next Stage in Thermal Materials for 5G

Whilst much of the "5G" infrastructure is a moderate upgrade on existing 4G technology, there is still plenty of scope for higher frequency deployment such as mmWave devices and very different station types such as small cells. Each of these new developments presents its own technological evolution and with it, thermal challenges.
